Terminal 1

Terminal 1 is home to all Heathrow's domestic flights, as well as some European and long-haul destinations. 15 airlines operate from Terminal 1, carrying over 25 million passengers each year.

Checking In

Check-In and Flight Departures for domestic destinations operate from the first floor of Terminal 1, on the left of the concourse. Flight information is displayed on monitors at the entrance of the terminal and check-in zones are clearly signposted. Check-in desks for international flights are located in the middle and on the right of the concourse. Flight Arrivals are located on the ground floor for international passengers and on the first floor for those arriving from the UK, Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands.

  • Long-haul flights - check in 3 hours prior to departure
  • European flights - check in 2 hours prior to departure
  • Domestic flights - check in 90 minutes prior to departure

Boarding usually begins around 45 minutes before departure.

Self Service Check-In

Self service check-in is available with some airlines; it is simple and safe to use and can save you a lot of time at the airport. Self service check-in is available both online and in kiosks located at the airport. Terminal 1 has kiosks located near the standard check-in desks. You can use this service if you are flying with:

  • Aer Lingus
  • bmi 
  • United Airlines

Arrivals for international passengers are located on the ground floor of Terminal 1. Domestic, Republic of Ireland and Channel Island arrivals and baggage reclaim are located on the first floor of Terminal 1. Check Heathrow Flight Arrivals for information on scheduled times and destinations, details of delays and cancellations, and find out which terminal to use.

International connections do not require going through Immigrations or Customs but all International to Domestic connections do.

Domestic to International connecting passengers can use special Immigration check points if baggage is through-checked.

Left luggage facilities are available in the Arrivals concourse in Terminal 1, next to the lifts for Heathrow Express. Open from 06:00 to 23:00 at a cost of £6.50 per item per day. Each item is security checked. You can contact Excess Baggage on +44 (0)208 745 3344 for further information.

Terminal 1 handles all domestic flights to destinations in the UK and Ireland. There are also some European and long-haul flights that operate from Terminal 1, including flights to places such as San Francisco in the USA and Cape Town in South Africa.
